What do you consider very special about a great photograph? Obviously, it is nothing but the ‘creative composition’. It is like a difference between noise and music. If noise is a disorganized sound, an organized sound could be called as music!
Most of us just aim our camera and shoot at the subject. Snap shooters never bother about the composition and that is why many times, snapshots do not communicate anything. The best photographs always have the proper mix of art and technique. The blend of art, called composition with the technique makes the picture different and hence noticeable. It is the difference between the best and the just photographs that says it all!!
‘Composition is the strongest way of seeing’ said Edward Weston. The best part of good composition depends on how you see a subject. The ‘art of seeing’ is considered to be the art of composition and it happens naturally to a photographer who knows to see it right. . Photography composition is basically about the beautiful way to arrange the various elements of the subjects in order to communicate.
It is the perception about any subject and its representation on a film or digital sensor. It is a form with which the photographer wants to put his idea. Though the subject is the same, different photographers shoot it differently. This difference is due to the way how each one perceives the subject and puts it aesthetically in a photography frame. It is an execution of a beautiful expression of a photography idea.
Creative composition is a very personnel and exclusive idea which can seldom be copied by another photographer. It is a very special style and skill of a photographer. Composition is the power of a photographer to tell a story though his pictures. It is like his signature.
Nowadays, photography is understood more of a technique than art and the true power of composition is neglected. A photography process where the creative composition is neglected ends up in a mediocre photograph. Most of the principles of good composition are from time immemorial and had been practiced in drawing and painting. And that is why the principles of good composition remain the same irrespective of the technological changes in photography. Composition is the life and soul of a photograph.
Most principles of composition practiced by the photographers of black and white period remain unchanged and are still applicable in our digital era.
Last but not the least; it is not an outcome of an expensive camera, but a thought process of a complete photographer.

"think less about the camera you have and more about the way you use it" i read these words very long back and it is still always echo in my mind whenever i got a good framing or a photograph with a good composition.
Yes Lakshman, for me good photography is all about an aesthetic composition.
Yes ,
Compositions are so important , I read again and again about Compositions from different photographers ,books and always find that simple and punchy compositions make exposures very memorable.
